Alexei Navalny
The Russian Embassy in Budapest issued a statement calling the Alexei Navalny memorial, which was unexpectedly removed earlier this week, “of dubious value.” The embassy wrote that an anti-Russian group dismantled the memorial dedicated to the activist who died in prison last year, and they are convinced that the commotion surrounding the dismantling and permanent removal of the memorial is intended to make the Embassy of the Russian Federation part of the election campaign.
The Russian Embassy in Budapest announced on Facebook that the Alexei Navalny memorial on Andrássy Avenue had been dismantled.
“Many left-wing Hungarian public and political figures were saddened by the demolition of the installation dedicated to Navalny. The installation was erected without permission in front of our embassy building by a group of anti-Russian individuals who have been regularly maintaining it for a year and a half and have been trying to create the false impression among citizens that they want it there.”
Now, it seems the time has come for another provocation: to secretly dismantle this installation, organize a loud rally with accusations against Russia, and demand that a permanent “memorial” be created in its place, the statement continues, mentioning Tamás Soproni, who wrote in a Facebook post that the Terézváros Local Government will initiate the creation of a permanent memorial site in the capital. According to the embassy, the mayor “had time to consult with the mayor’s office of the capital,” and “all these actions were coordinated.”
We are convinced that the fuss surrounding the demolition of this dubious facility, and even more so the attempts to make it permanent, are intended to make the situation around the Embassy part of the unfolding election campaign, which we categorically oppose,”
they wrote.

Fact
According to the latest information, Alexei Navalny’s death may have been caused by poisoning, and in August, Russia banned the activist’s memoir after it was added to the list of extremist materials. Under the ruling, it is prohibited to distribute, possess, or even search for the book, which was published after the former Russian politician’s death, on the internet.
