Power banks recalled after reports of 'fire and explosion incidents'

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — More than 400,000 Anker power banks are being recalled for posing fire and burn hazards.

The lithium-ion battery inside can overheat, according to the recall notice. To date, there have been 33 reports of “fire and explosion incidents” linked to the portable chargers, including four reports of minor burns and one that involved substantial property damage.

The devices were sold for $30–$50 from August 2023 through June 2025. They were available at stores like Best Buy and Target, as well as online through Amazon, AliExpress, eBay, Walmart and TikTok.

Consumers should stop using the power banks immediately and go to Anker’s recall page to verify the serial number and register it. Those with a recalled power bank can call 800-988-7973 or email support@anker.com to receive a full cash refund or gift card.

To get a refund, consumers will be asked to submit a photo showing the model and serial numbers with the word “recalled” written on the back of the power bank in permanent marker, along with their name and the date.

Recalled lithium-ion batteries should not be thrown in the trash or recycling due to the fire risk. Consumers should contact their local hazardous waste collection center for proper disposal.
