Tyler Robinson appeared in a Utah court on Tuesday, charged with the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, as prosecutors announced plans to seek the death penalty. Kirk, an ally of former President Trump and founder of Turning Point USA, was shot dead last week during an event on a university campus in Utah, USA.

As the Guardian newspaper reported, prosecutors allege Robinson fired a bullet from a rooftop, fatally striking Kirk in front of thousands. After a 33-hour manhunt, he turned himself in at his parents’ urging.

In court, Robinson wore a suicide prevention smock and confirmed only his name while facing charges including aggravated murder and obstruction of justice.

Utah County Attorney Jeff Gray cited evidence and motives, revealing text messages in which Robinson expressed intent to kill Kirk, stating, “I had enough of his hatred.”

Kirk, a polarizing figure known for his views against transgender rights, has sparked significant controversy since his death.
