Lady Tops move up to second in Badger Invitational

The Western Kentucky women’s golf team moved up to second place in the second round of the Badger Invitational on Monday in Madison, Wisconsin.
The Lady Toppers shaved two strokes off of their score to finish the day at 2-under par 286, giving them a total score of 574 (-2) for the tournament.
WKU’s 286 in the second round was the Lady Toppers best round score of the season. Going into the final round, WKU is 11 strokes behind first-place Illinois (-13).
The Lady Toppers have made par on 123 holes in the tournament, which is tied for the most in the field.
WKU senior Sydney Hackett is tied for first place after the first two rounds. Hackett fired a 68 (-4) for the day, bringing her tournament total to 137 (-7). Her 137 through the first 36 holes is tied for the fourth best score in program history and is a personal best for the senior. In the second round, Hackett made par or better on all 18 holes. Her 4.60 stroke average on par 5s is tied for the best average in the field.
Lady Toppers freshman Leah Edwards had a career day, shooting a 69 (-3) in the second round to put her in eighth place with an overall score of 141 (-3) going into the final day. She is one of five players in the tournament with an eagle (hole 9).
WKU’s Kaylee Dwyer, Averi Cline and Reagan Ramage all enter the third round with a 150 (+6) score, putting them in a tie for 34th place. Ramage bounced back in round two with a 73 (+1), while Cline shot a 76 (+4) and Dwyer posted a 77 (+5). Julia Zigrossi, playing as an individual, shot a 76 (+4) for the day. She’s tied for 46th place with a score of 152 (+8) for the tournament.
“The team played really solid today,” WKU coach Adam Gary said in a news release. “We focused on our par 5 scoring and did much better. It’s nice to have our first under par round of the year and look forward to keeping the momentum going tomorrow.”
The third and final round of the Badger Invitational will be played on Tuesday. The first Lady Topper will tee off at 10:30 a.m. (CT).
