Prayagraj: Abhishek Giri is one of the 12-odd artists from Mumbai who is be performing prominent character in Katra Ramlila in Sangam city this year. Giri, who has worked in web series and movies, is all set to play the role of Laxman in Katra Ramlila. Similarly, Shwetank Mishra and Shreya Singh, playing the roles of Ravan and Kaikai at Katra Ramlila, have acted in many web series and short films in tinsel town.Giri says, “Even after moving to Mumbai and performing roles in serials, web series, and movies, I still maintained my association with the Katra Ramlila committee for the past several years. My schooling and higher education were done in Sangam city, and I even learnt acting skills at local theatres and plays.” Talking about his bond with the city, he said, “The majority of prominent characters playing different roles in various Ramlilas want to associate themselves with the city through various activities, and Ramlila is the perfect opportunity for all of us to express our feelings and exhibit our acting talent.”“We have our roots in Sangam city, and no one could forget their childhood and training days when we did several theatre shows and plays here,” said another artist, adding, “The attraction of Prayagraj Ramlilas, brought many artists here from Mumbai to play various characters in the Ramlila”. Be it Katra, Patharchatti, or Pajawa Ramlila, artisans from Mumbai—who have their roots in Sangam city—are working hard during rehearsals to justify their characters in the Ramlilas.Director of Katra Ramlila, Subodh Singh, says, “Even after moving to tinsel town to make their career in acting, these artists never forget their roots. They want to associate with Ramlila whenever it is organised.”He added,”We have a dedicated team of artists who not only perform different characters in web series and TV serials in Mumbai but also do justice to their roles in the Ramlila”.
