Release of all innocent youths detained in jails and a judicial inquiry into all killings in Punjab are among the “immediate tasks” the Akali Dal (L) would undertake after coming to power in Punjab, according to the party’s election manifesto made public by Balwant Singh, the former finance minister. It also promise the rehabilitation of released youths, financial and other assistance to the dependents of those killed in “false encounters,” pension to dependents of those killed in the Akali agitation, and measures to restore peace and normalcy in the state.

Two Indians missing

Two Indians were reported missing as the Birmingham riots, which have claimed four lives and resulted in extensive property damage, continued for the third straight day despite massive police presence. India’s assistant high commissioner, O P Gupta, told UNI after a survey of the affected areas that the two Indians were missing and the police have mounted a search.

DTC bus accident

A DTC bus ploughed into the bus stop at Hauz Khas, killing two and injuring 13 others. One of the injured is in a serious condition. The DTC bus apparently went out of control as it approached the bus stop at the Green Park church, said South Delhi police chief Maxwell Pereira. It ran right on to the horrified group of waiting passengers.

Fake bail orders

The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court is understood to have taken seriously the unearthing of a gang in Bihar that aided undertrials involved in heinous crimes to get out of jail on forged bail orders of the Supreme Court.
