Tourism boost after Guernsey features on French TV

More than three million people watched a segment about Guernsey on French television, the States of Guernsey has said.

The six-minute prime-time slot on national TV channel M6 featured a tour of Victor Hugo’s house, a visit to the spot where Auguste Renoir created some of his paintings, and visits to St Peter Port and Lihou.

Zoë Gosling, the States’ lead marketing officer, said the programme captured the island’s “stunning scenery” and how easy it was to get to Guernsey from France.

“This kind of exposure for the islands means we keep Guernsey in front of those who we are trying to entice back for a longer stay, as well as those who are yet to visit,” she said.

Paul Acheson, from Brittany Ferries, agreed the exposure was “priceless”.

He said the show, Grand Angle, was “well-known and highly regarded” and the coverage of the island was “truly outstanding”.

The segment was shown on 2 and 4 September and can be seen on the station’s YouTube channel.
