The well-known metal band Mastodon recently had one of its members injure themselves.

The legendary band formed twenty years ago and includes vocalist/bassist Troy Sanders, guitarist Bill Kelliher, vocalist/drummer Brann Dailor, and recently departed guitarist Brent Hinds.

The group went on to create such critically acclaimed albums such as “Leviathan,” “Blood Mountain,” and “Crack the Skye.”

And, as many musicians have before, sometimes they get injured on the job. This recently happened to Dailor, although the experience was a little out of the ordinary.

Mastodon took to social media to share what went down with the drummer.

“You ever get a giant splinter in your head?” Mastodon asked on May 28 while sharing a video of Dailor, who explained what happened.

“A stick broke on a cymbal in the middle of ‘More Than I Can Chew,’” Dailor said. The star referred to a song from the group’s most recent album, “Hushed and Grim.”

“It broke in this perfect fashion where it created a little shard,” he explained.

There was then a closeup of the “shard” that had found its way to his head.

“The pointy part of it stuck in my forehead [and] it was just dangling there,” he shared. “So while I was singing and playing, I got up and batted it out, so I started bleeding a little bit.”

Taken aback, fans swarmed the comments section of the post to pretty much express their reactions.

“He looked like Alice Cooper with this blood coming down his face,” one fan commented.

Others were concerned about how dangerously close the splinter got to his face.

“[That] could have been really bad,” one fan wrote. “Thank god it wasn’t in your eye,” another said.

Mastodon is currently closing out its tour with Coheed and Cambria and Periphery.
