Luanda, Angola | The Libyan National Football Team held onto its slim hopes of qualifying for the World Cup finals after a precious 1-0 away victory over the Angolan national team on Thursday in the seventh round of Group 4 of the African qualifiers for the World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Ezzidine Al-Marmi played the hero of the match after scoring the sole goal for the Libyan team in the 48th minute.
The Libyan team’s points tally rose to 11, placing them third, just one point behind the second-placed Cameroonian team, which is set to host bottom-placed Eswatini (with 2 points) later today. Libya now trails group leaders Cape Verde by 5 points.
Meanwhile, the Angolan team’s points stopped at 7, leaving them in fourth place.
The teams participating in the qualifiers were divided into 9 groups of 6 teams each. The winners of each group will qualify directly for the World Cup, while the best four second-placed teams will compete in a playoff to determine which team will represent Africa in the global inter-confederation playoffs for a spot in the World Cup.
