Scripture Union Solomon Islands is continuing its mission to spiritually uplift and engage students across schools in Honiara, bringing together young people from various backgrounds for Christian fellowship and growth.
Speaking to SUNDAY ISLES, former president of Scripture Union Solomon Islands, Mr. Justin “JJ” Duete, highlighted the importance of the program in guiding students along their spiritual journey.
“The important part of it is to engage young people and involve them in programs that continue to strengthen their spiritual journey as Christians,” Mr. Duete said.
Over the past few months, Scripture Union has been actively reaching out to schools across Honiara—from White River to Lunga, including private schools—bringing students together for monthly fellowship gatherings filled with prayer, worship, Bible engagement, and school visits.
“Most of the students involved come from different schools and denominations. They meet regularly to worship, pray, and grow together,” he shared.
Mr. Duete said that the program aims to unify students across schools and church backgrounds.
“What God wants is for us to bring young people together, from all schools, and involve them in programs that will shape their lives,” he said.
Ongoing Programs Making Impact
The activities run by Scripture Union Solomon Islands include:
- Bible Engagement Sessions
- School Visitations
- Street Evangelism
- Hospital Visits and Prayer for the Sick
“Sometimes we visit the National Referral Hospital—Number Nine—and pray for the sick people. It’s part of showing love and care as Christians,” Duete explained.
Schools Involved and Open Invitation
Currently, students from numerous schools along the Honiara corridor—from White River to Lunga—are active in the program. Mr. Duete also noted growing interest from private schools, many of which have visited the Scripture Union office at Town Ground to request participation.
“We are seeing more interest. Some private schools visit us and ask how to be part of the program. We also visit them to encourage the formation of Scripture Union groups in their schools,” he said.
Next Fellowship Gathering
Last month’s fellowship was hosted by Coronation Christian School, and the next monthly gathering in September will be hosted by Mbua Valley School. The final date is yet to be confirmed and will be announced in their upcoming leadership meeting.
Meanwhile, Mr. Duete issued a invitation to students and schools who are not yet part of the program.
“Yes, for those who are interested to join—you are most welcome. We need more young people to join
