Prague Hosts Silent March for Lost Childhood

On Thursday, September 4, at 4 p.m., Prague will host a silent procession titled Light for Lost Childhood, meant to honor children affected by conflict in both Palestine and Israel.

The movement is spearheaded by Tamara and Tomáš Klus, who have enlisted voices across faith and civic spheres.

Led by Tomáš Halík, noted Catholic priest and scholar, alongside Mikuláš Vymětal of the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren, the initiative brings together church leaders, civil society, and human rights advocacy groups.

Among the supporters are Doctors Without Borders, People in Need, Caritas Czech Republic, Amnesty International, and the Organization for Refugee Assistance (OPU).

“This silent procession is a profound act of grief, solidarity, and conscience,” the Klus couple explains. “Not all of us can shout or publish essays or deliver talks—but anyone who believes that the killing of children is catastrophic for the future can join us in silence. Silence can speak when words fail—and it can be astonishingly powerful.”

Participants are asked to gather at the Evangelical Church of the Savior, wearing white as a symbol of unity and peace. The procession will move without banners or flags and will culminate in a prayer service at the Catholic Church of the Holy Savior.

Following the march, the evening continues with a benefit concert at Lucerna Music Bar, featuring Czech musicians and activists. All proceeds will support relief efforts for civilians in Gaza.

In their closing message, the organizers emphasize the breadth of support they have mobilized:

“We’re creating a compassionate, informed, human-rights-based counterpoint in society. The coalition of individuals, groups, and organizations we’ve connected—that is our strength. That is where our light shines.”
