Syracuse, N.Y. — Section III track and field athletes gathered at Sherburne-Earlville High School on Wednesday for the Class B-2 championship meet.
Cazenovia swept the team titles, with the girls compiling 172.33 points and the boys racking up 143.
“We’re psyched,” Cazenovia boys coach Mark Tugaw said. “We did really well, and did better than expected. Overall, we outperformed.”
Lakers girls’ coach Isaiah Brooks said: “They did awesome and really showed out. The girls worked really hard.”
Also for the girls, Lowville placed second (88 points) and Marcellus came in third (77). On the boys’ side, the Mustangs took second (116.67) and Canastota grabbed third (97).
The Section III state qualifiers are set for next week at C-NS. The boys will compete on Tuesday while the girls are scheduled to go toe-to-toe on June 5.
Girls
Cazenovia’s 4×800-meter relay of Maura Phillips, Maeve McGreevy, Olivia Ruddy and Lily Kogut compiled a winning time of 10:31.54.
In the 4×100-meter relay, the Lakers’ Audie Spring, Izzy Stromer-Galley, Susie Pittman and Caroline Mehlbaum won in 50.18 seconds.
Also for Cazenovia, Abbie Comeau was victorious in the 2,000-meter steeplechase. Pittman also won the pole vault (11 feet) and the triple jump (36-2.25).
“We have 16 girls pulling up to the state qualifiers next week,” Brooks said. “Shoutout to my captain seniors and to Susie, our MVP with her first-place finishes.”
Solvay’s Serenity Williams won the pentathlon with 2,889 points, placing first in four of the five events. Kyira Davis grabbed a victory in the 200-meter dash in 26.63 seconds.
Also for the Bearcats, Jernessa Donaldson took first place in the shot put (36-1.75).
Marcellus’ Madison Foy hurdled to victories in the 100 meters (14.67 seconds) and the 400 meters (1:03.28). Harmony Frost won the 100-meter dash in 12.99 seconds.
The Mustangs’ 4×400-meter relay of Foy, Corrine Aldrich, Emmi Rossiter and Dorothy McMahon were victorious in 4:08.87.
Skaneateles’ Lucy Fleckenstein was victorious in the 1,500-meter run (4:55.24) and the 800 meters (2:25.24).
Phoenix’s Samantha Hopps won the 400-meter dash in 1:00.24. Canastota’s Kalli Congden took first in the high jump (4-8).
Lowville’s Paige Zehr garnered the top finish in the 3,000-meter run (11:47.9), and Maya Laribee grabbed a win in discus (113-8). Anya Rush secured a victory in the long jump (16-6.25).

Boys
Cazenovia’s 4×100-meter relay of Charlie Comeau, Michael Harris Jr., Wyatt Scott and Finn Worthington won with a combined time of 44.23 seconds.
In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Jake Woolbert placed first in 10:35.6 for the Lakers. Eliot Comeau won the high jump at 6-1.
“Woolbert was a beast. He was absolutely crucial to our overall performance,” Tugaw said. “Finn did really well, and our 4×1 relay has really put it together. Eliot can honestly perform anywhere. Our seniors provided such great sportsmanship and leadership qualities. We’re hoping to send a few guys to state quals.”
Marcellus’ Ay-Zoh Shaw captured the pentathlon title with 2,478 points. In the 4×800-meter relay, Finnegan Criss, Jamison Palen, Jack Lucio and Liam Eldridge won in 8:38.17.
Also for the Mustangs, Owen Alexander took home a win in the 110-meter hurdles (15.47 seconds). Eldridge won the 1,600 meters (4:38.48) and the 3,200 meters (10:24.34), while Colden Kwasnowski was victorious in the 400-meter hurdles in 58.83 seconds.
In the 4×400-meter relay, Marcellus’ Kwasnowski, Lucio, Palen and Xander Szalach compiled a first-place time of 3:34.67. Nolan Hoey won the shot put (46-1.75).
Solvay’s Antwan Hicks darted to wins in the 100 meters (11.29 seconds) and the 200 meters (23.44 seconds). Giovanni Cilani recorded first place in the triple jump (43-7.5).
Skaneateles’ Tritan Boucher took first in the 800-meter run (2:02.73). Ryan McCrone won the pole vault at 12 feet.
Phoenix’s Julius Spaights darted to a win in the 400 meters (49.77 seconds).
Canastota’s Marcus Relyea snatched first place in discus (135-3). Kole Otts leapt to a win in the long jump (22-0.25).
