Fire obliterates Clayton home, damages neighrboring home on Greenfield Lane: Officials

CLAYTON, N.C. (WNCN) — Fire officials are investigating what led to two homes sustaining extensive damage in the Johnston County area of Clayton.

According to the North Side Fire & Rescue, they rushed to the scene after multiple calls came in around 1:50 a.m. Friday for a fire at 49 Greenfield Lane.

An official said the first responding unit immediately deemed it a working fire upon arrival. Fire also hit 47 Greenfield Lane in the midst of the blaze. North Side Fire & Rescue said four departments in total put out the fire, including Corinth-Holders, Clayton and Wilson’s Mills fire departments.

The official said the woman who owned 49 Greenfield Lane was able to get her and her dog out of the house on her own after the smoke alarm woke her up. The woman who lived in 47 Greenfield Lane and her two dogs were also able to self-evacuate.

The official said no injuries were reported in the fire. The fire was marked under control for both homes around 2:50. The official said that while 49 Greenfield Lane is a complete loss, 47 Greenfield Lane sustained damage to the HVAC system and siding on the home.

Neighbors and family in the older community — as well as Red Cross, 1-800-Board-Up and Duke Energy — are all assisting the displaced residents of the fire.
