Schools in Aitape Urban celebrated in colorful Papua New Guinea colors and style with St Anna and Aitape Primary and Aitape Junior High Schools’ Float Marching around Aitape town yesterday and today, igniting the spirit of the 50th Golden Jubilee Celebrations in Aitape-Lumi District with the rest of the country.
The schools hosted Mini Beauty Contests of both modern and traditional attires, explaining and showcasing traditional and cultural histories and their visions for Papua New Guinea after 50 years of Independence.
Aitape Primary and Aitape Junior High School students, staff, parents, citizens, and the general public were invited today to join the schools in celebrating this remarkable milestone of 50 years of Independence.
School Headmistress Mrs Joan Saiwi reminded all that this is an opportunity to rediscover our true identities in showcasing our vibrant cultures, building new connections, and rekindling old ones as celebrations continue tomorrow.
Aitape Urban Manager and caretaker District Administrator for Aitape-Lumi District Mr Canisius Saweni officially opened the pre-celebrations and also adds that the 50th Golden Jubilee Celebrations must be celebrated and enjoyed by everyone including schools, people living with disabilities, prisoners, public sevants and indigenous Papua New Guineans.
Mr Saweni thanked the school administrations, students, and staff in hosting the pre-celebrations and also welcomed all to join in the celebrations.
The pre-celebrations will continue tomorrow with
fun games, cultural shows, and other pre-celebration activities.
