The Thalassery Vigilance Court on Wednesday (May 28, 2025) sentenced M. Abdul Rahman, former assistant director of the Marketing department at the District Principal Agriculture Office, Kasaragod, to 37 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) each in five separate corruption cases, along with a fine of ₹3 lakh in each case, for embezzling funds from a government-linked agriculture society.
The court found Rahman guilty of misappropriating ₹9,41,888 from the District Agriculture Produce Storage and Distribution Society between 2004 and 2008, during which he served as its secretary. According to the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB), Rahman forged the signatures of the society’s chairman and treasurer to withdraw funds from the society’s joint account.
The sentences will run concurrently, as per the order issued by Inquiry Commissioner and Special Judge (Vigilance) K. Ramakrishnan. Public Prosecutor K. Ushakumar represented the Vigilance.
All five cases were investigated by the VACB’s Kasaragod unit. Following the sentencing, Rahman was remanded to Kannur Central Jail.
