Lafayette library board member raising money to pay attorney | Courts

At a library board meeting May 19, Judge convinced a majority of the board not to go into executive session with its attorney and LCG attorney Pat Ottinger to consider an offer by Mejia and Brevis to settle the lawsuit, which already has accrued more than $100,000 in legal fees. Board attorney Stuart Breaux advised the board to go into executive session to discuss the settlement.

All details of the proposed settlement were not made public, but it appears the settlement, among other things, would have waived the legal fees, dropped everyone from the lawsuit except Judge and prevented Judge from voting on matters involving the lawsuit.
