Eleven Jamaicans in Line to Become Diamond League Champions

Three Jamaicans could be among the five Wanda Diamond League champions scheduled to be crowned on the first day of the two finals at the Letzigrund Stadium in Zurich on Wednesday.

Olympic Silver medallist Wayne Pinnock, Carey McLeod and Rajindra Campbell are all in the runnings for a Diamond Trophy and the top prize of $50,000.

Pinnock and McLeod are in the six who’ll battle for the men’s Long Jump crown along with Olympic and World champion Miltiadis Tentoglou of Greece.

Campbell will be in a battle of four of the top five finishers at the Paris Olympic games last year in the men’s Shot Put final including two time world champion and three time Diamond League winner Joe Kovacs.

Day two will see 8 more Jamaicans looking to be crowned Diamond League champions.

Tia Clayton is the only one of the 8 yet to secure a spot at the World Championships in Japan and will be keen to win the women’s 100m title to gain the wild card.

She’ll face Olympic champion Julien Alfred, Dina Asher Smith and Marie- Josee Ta Lou Smith.

Romaine Beckford goes in the men’s High Jump, Jordan Scott the men’s Triple Jump where he’s the leader, Shanieka Ricketts in the women’s Triple Jump, Ackera Nugent and Danielle Williams in the 100m hurdles, Orlando Bennett in the 110m hurdles and Ackeem Blake in the men’s 100m.
