A Republican lawmaker is taking heat on social media for a plan to give President Donald Trump even more time in office, among other things.
“Give Trump a third term, give him a Peace Prize, and let him run D.C. as long as he wants,” Rep. Andy Ogles (R-Tenn.) wrote on X.
Some critics called for Ogles’ removal, given that the Constitution states that members of Congress “shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution,” which prohibits a third term.
Ogles in January introduced an amendment to the Constitution that would allow Trump a third term, but that’s a tall order as it requires the approval of two-thirds of the House and Senate and then ratification by the legislatures of 38 of the 50 states.
Ogles’ message was hit with a Community Note pointing out the Constitutional restriction, as well as hundreds of responses slamming his proposals:
