A Baton Rouge police officer and an accompanying passenger were hospitalized Monday morning after the BRPD patrol vehicle caught fire following a collision.
BRPD Cpl. Saundra Watts said the incident occurred around 8 a.m. at the intersection of East Harrison Street and Thomas Delpit Drive. Watts said another car pulled in front of the police vehicle, causing a crash that sparked a small fire beneath the patrol car. Both the officer and the passenger were quickly pulled from the burning vehicle and transported to a nearby hospital.
Both victims appear to have been in stable condition as of Monday evening. No information has yet been released regarding the driver of the other vehicle involved in the crash, and the incident remains under investigation.
