SPRING HOPE, N.C. (WNCN) – Law enforcement is searching for two people who were swept away by flooding in Nash County on Wednesday afternoon, emergency officials said.

According to Nash County 911 Dispatch, crews responded around 2:15 p.m. to a water rescue in the area of N.C. 581 near the Spring Hope city limits.

The Nash County Sheriff’s Office told CBS 17 that first responders were looking for two people who got carried away by the floodwaters. An officer was also washed away, but he was able to rush to the side and get out of the water.

Emergency officials said the event is still active.

The sheriff’s office is set to hold a news conference at the Food Lion on East Nash Street in Spring Hope later Wednesday at 6 p.m.
