Exploring the past at summer history camps

BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) — Hands-on history camps for middle school-aged kids are being offered during the summer through the State Historical Society of North Dakota.

Each of the programs is designed for kids entering sixth, seventh, and eighth grade and is led by history and education experts.

The first session is from July 28-30 at the North Dakota Heritage Center & State Museum in Bismarck. During the three days, kids will unearth findings, sort artifacts, curate collections, and practice trades of the past.

The second session is from August 4-6 at the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center and Fort Mandan State Historic Site in Washburn. Here, kids will pack for the Lewis and Clark Expedition and start on the journey with hands-on activities.

The third session will be at three different locations from August 11-13: North Dakota Heritage Center & State Museum, Camp Hancock State Historic Site, and the Former Governors’ Mansion State Historic Site. During this camp, kids can explore North Dakota’s early history, chart changing environments, and relive early home life.
