CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) – The WVSSAC announced that they will be doubling the field of teams in the state baseball tournament starting for the 2026 postseason.

Currently, four teams from each of the four classes compete in a single-elimination tournament over a three day period. Under the new expansion, it will be eight teams competing from each of the four classes, and the games will be played beginning on a Saturday, a day off, and then continue from Monday through the following championship Saturday.

The teams will be seeded 1-8 depending on how they finish in the best-of-three regional championship series the week prior.

The Baseball Coaches Advisory Committee brought this issue forward to the WVSSAC, and the vote passed with 86 of 90 schools approving of the expansion.

The 2025 WVSSAC Baseball Tournament will be held at GoMart Ballpark in Charleston from June 5-7.
