INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A “substantial sewer backup” has forced the temporary closure of the Plainfield Police Department.

The building, located at 1075 W. Main St., flooded and has been closed since the incident, Deputy Chief Ryan Salisbury confirmed to News 8 via email on Monday. The department’s administrative offices will be closed until further notice.

“We are actively working on setting up a satellite location for people to receive documents and information while the building is cleaned and remediated,” Salisbury said.

Salisbury did not say how long remediation and cleanup might take.

“We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time. Our officers remain on duty and committed to keeping Plainfield safe,” the department said in a Monday morning Facebook post.

The police department advises residents who need non-emergency help or who want to request an officer to call the Hendricks County Communication Center at 317-838-3700.

Residents with emergencies should still call 911.
