Man killed inside West Englewood business: police

A man was killed Friday afternoon following a shooting inside a West Englewood business on the city’s Southwest Side, according to Chicago police.

The victim, a 42-year-old man was arguing with two men inside the business in the 7000 block of South Damen Avenue just before 4:30 p.m., when one of the men pulled out a handgun and opened fire on the victim, police said.

The victim suffered four wounds to his chest, one wound to his head and one wound to his back and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office confirmed the death Friday evening, but withheld the victim’s identity pending family notification.

Chicago police did not identify the business, but public records show a convenience store and an adjacent gas station.

The 38-year-old alleged gunman suffered a gunshot wound to his left hand and was placed in police custody and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn for treatment. The man with the gunman fled the store on foot and was not in custody Friday evening as Wentworth Area detectives continued their investigation, police said.
