NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Relatively mild morning temperatures are present with still mostly low humidity with light winds for most, except for northeasterly winds bringing in more-humid air in the Northeast Highlands. Some communities in the Northern Mountains are starting off around the freezing mark with very few areas below freezing, while most other areas in New Mexico are in the upper 40s to the 60s.

Slightly stronger upper-level westerly winds will push some mid-to-high-level clouds to the east with very little rainfall today and even higher temperatures for most. Mountainous areas through the East Highlands will reach the upper 60s through the high 70s, plenty warm enough for more snowmelt in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains through the San Juan Mountains, while most areas to the south will reach the upper 80s, 90s, and 100 degrees.

Surface winds will be a bit more persistent along the east slopes of the Sacramento Mountains with low humidity remaining elevating the fire threat with patchy dust, except for lingering surface moisture in far-eastern areas of New Mexico.

Mostly sunny skies are in store for the short term with the hottest air of the season moving in as the jet stream remains to the north of New Mexico with a high pressure system moving in as barely any rain will fall in the Northern Mountains.

However, with an upper-level disturbance moving closer to the region on Memorial Day, the higher humidity out east will be drawn westward, igniting the higher chances for thunderstorms with lower temperatures.
