SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Drier and warmer weather is on the way back to KELOLAND.
Meteorologist Scot Mundt has the details.
Cooler and wetter weather has dominated many in KELOLAND over the past couple of weeks. Though we’re still below average when it comes to rainfall in southeast KELOLAND, at least we’ve had periods of rain in the area. But as we continue through June, I expect to see drier and warmer weather returning.

Forecast models for the second half of June through the first half of July are showing above-average temperatures returning.
As the warmer weather returns, it will be hard to generate rain. Expect a drier pattern during that same time too.
We’ll see if we get a more typical summer pattern by then with a ridge in the upper layers of the atmosphere, which helps bring in dry and warm weather.
Don’t get me wrong, we can still get summertime rains with any disturbances that ride the ridge. If that happens, it usually brings nighttime storms to the area.
I’ve said it before, take whatever rain you can get…as long as it isn’t too much. Because by the time we hit the second half of June and beyond, the rain may get shut-off and temperatures will warm at or above average.
