‘A light in our home’: Fundraiser started for family of St. George teen killed on I-15

ST. GEORGE — The family members of Jessica Santiago, the 16-year-old they say was the pedestrian struck and killed on I-15 on Friday, are receiving support and donations as they prepare for a funeral mass at St. George Catholic Church later this week.

Jessica’s mother, Aurora Aranda, wrote a post on Facebook stating, “Thank you everyone for your love and support in this difficult time,” along with a link to a GoFundMe* fundraiser established by Karla Carranza.

Aranda’s son, 25-year-old Omar Santiago, told St. George News that Carranza is “a very close family friend” who set up the GoFundMe “so we can have some support in these troubling times.”

As of Tuesday, Santiago said the family still does not know precisely what led to his sister’s death on I-15.
