Tuesday night’s Hawaiian Air flight to Honolulu HA466 was the last one in the airline’s network to use the Hawaiian Airlines call sign HA.
When it landed in Honolulu Wednesday morning the call sign had changed to AS, Alaska Airlines’ call sign.
This brings an end to 95 years of the Hawaiian Airlines operating as a stand alone airline.
Before passengers boarded the flight to Honolulu airline employee Joe Iosua Masoe aka Joe Smooth announced that this would be the final flight using the HA call sign and that the AS call sign will be in use when the plane landed in Honolulu.
On behalf of local management he thanked American Samoa for supporting Hawaiian Airlines all these years.
Hawaii News Now reports that the flight was greeted by a welcoming hula upon arrival
Hawaiian’s brand image will live on.
Alaska Airlines will continue the Hawaiian branding on flights to and from the Hawaii islands.
In the near future the airlines will share an FAA single operating certificate.
