Today marked a sad moment for NCSL as the genesis of the company, Mr Ian Tarutia, officially closed a chapter of his life by retiring from the board of NCSL.
Mr Tarutia, the founder of NCSL, told Post-Courier Online that while he was saddened by his retirement from the institution he established, he was also excited about the future of the organisation.
“I’m sad that after a long association with NCSL, I have to formally step off. But I am also very excited because I know the future of NCSL is in good hands. Where it is today, it can only get bigger and better, and stronger for the members it is serving,” he said.
Reflecting on the journey, Mr Tarutia described his involvement in establishing NCSL in 2003 as a proud and historic milestone.
“It has been over 20 years now, and NCSL today is one of the financial institutions well known in the savings and loans space and the PNG financial sector, to its members, and I am really proud,” he said.
Mr Tarutia also acknowledged the individuals who supported him during the establishment of NCSL since its inception in October 2003.
“I would like to use this opportunity to acknowledge them; Paulus Laveil, Managing Director of the Federation of Savings and Loan Societies Inc. (FESALOS) in Papua New Guinea, Michael Koisen who was at that time the Chairman of FESALOS and is now the CEO of TISA Group,” he said, while also recognising other key individuals who played an important role in getting NCSL off the ground.
He further thanked staff members who had been with him from the beginning, describing them as a key part of the institution’s growth and success.
“So, what I created with the help of this team, to where NCSL is today, I am excited, but I also am sad that my formal association with NCSL ends. More importantly, I am excited about the future that NCSL has for its members,” he said.
In his final remarks, Mr Tarutia said evolution comes with time.
“We play our part, we move on, others come on board and they take over the mantle of leadership and they take on the mantle of the core values that helped create that institution. Then they create and write a new history and a new chapter for NCSL,” he said.
