Google is rolling out an artificial intelligence (AI) feature on its Play Store that summarises app reviews, allowing users to quickly gauge overall feedback without scrolling through long comment sections.

According to Android Authority, the AI summaries are being introduced gradually and have appeared on select devices running Play Store version 48.5.23-31. The feature seems to rely on a server-side update, meaning a wider rollout is expected soon.

The new summaries appear under the Ratings and Reviews section, highlighting key user sentiments in three to four sentences under a heading titled “Users are saying.” Each summary concludes with a tag reading “Summarized by Google AI.”

In addition, Google has introduced smart review filters, or “chips,” that allow users to sort feedback based on themes such as app stability, interface, or feature availability. This refinement aims to help users find specific insights about app performance or usability more efficiently.

While tech enthusiasts have praised the feature for saving time, experts warn that AI-generated summaries might overlook nuance or misinterpret user complaints — a concern previously observed with Amazon’s and Apple’s AI-powered review summaries.

Google’s push into AI tools for the Play Store comes amid broader integration of its Gemini model across its ecosystem, including upcoming Q&A features for app listings and enhanced “App Highlights.”
