3 Killed As Bandits Attack Kano Border Communities

Fresh attacks by suspected bandits on border communities between Kano and Katsina States have left at least three people dead and several others abducted in Shanono and Tsanyawa local government areas of Kano State.

Sources confirmed that the heavily armed attackers, believed to have crossed over to the State from the neighbouring Katsina State, first invaded Yanganau village in Tsanyawa LGA on Thursday evening but were repelled by security operatives after an exchange of gunfire.

A resident who spoke on the condition of anonymity said, “The bandits came from Kogari in Musawa/Matazu LGA of Katsina State. Security operatives were alerted around 5:30 p.m., and after several gunshots, the attackers fled without causing casualties or rustling livestock.”

The source added that after their failed attempt in Tsanyawa, the assailants regrouped and struck Yar Tsamiya village in Faruruwa ward, Shanono LGA, around 1:30 a.m., killing three people and abducting three others before fleeing the scene.

Another resident, Prof. Muhammad Dauda, from Kuraku village in the same area, confirmed the incident, lamenting that despite the deployment of security personnel, attacks had persisted across Faruruwa and neighbouring communities.

“In the last three days alone, we have suffered repeated attacks in Unguwar Tsamiya, Yaudari, and Yanganau. People have been killed and women kidnapped,” he said. “Our people are now sleeping in the bush or with relatives in nearby towns out of fear. We can no longer return home safely.”

Prof. Dauda appealed to President Bola Tinubu and the new military leadership to strengthen security presence along the Kano–Katsina border and protect the affected communities.

“The situation is getting out of hand. Gwarzo and Tsanyawa are at risk because of their proximity to Katsina. The Kano State Government must act urgently to fortify its borders before these criminals infiltrate deeper into the state,” he warned.

As of press time, security agencies were yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
