A quarry in the Tal-Mitħna area between Mqabba and Qrendi will be transformed into a new family park.
The €2 million project is being carried out by Project Green and is being supported by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
The new park will be around 7,400 square metres and will include over 100 trees and around 500 shrubs. It will also include a play area, a reservoir, an amphitheatre, green roof canopies, a ping pong table, and a ‘bug and bee hotel’.
“For many years, residents in this area have known this site as ‘the quarry area’,” Environment Minister Miriam Dalli said.
“Through this project, we will be introducing a beautiful open space for the residents of these localities, a space just a few minutes’ walk away for hundreds of families.”
EU Funds Minister Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi said the project clearly shows that European funds are being allocated efficiently for more green spaces in our communities.
