Zubeen Garg’s final film ‘Roi Roi Binale’ opens to packed theatres

The much-awaited and final film of Assam’s cultural icon Zubeen Garg, Roi Roi Binale, hit the screens on October 31. The film, which is considered to be one of Zubeen’s dream projects, has also set a record at the Assam box office by becoming one of the biggest releases ever.

The film has been released across 91 screens in the Northeast and 92 cities across India, with large crowds pouring into theatres since Friday morning — marking one of the biggest moments for Assamese cinema.

The first show started at 4:25 a.m. at Matrix Cinema Hall in Guwahati’s Beltola area. It has also been announced that multiple shows have been scheduled at the hall throughout the day and night over the next few days.

Meanwhile, for fans, Roi Roi Binale has become an emotional experience rather than just a cinematic release. Most viewers left theatres with teary eyes.

Screenwriter of Roi Roi Binale, Rahul Gautam Sarma, also watched the movie along with Zubeen’s fans on Friday. Speaking to the media, he said the movie is a celebration of the love and affection people have for Zubeen.

Along with Assam, the film is being screened in several other cities including Lucknow, Pune, Dehradun, Bhubaneswar, Jaipur, Goa, and more — a first for any Assamese production.

When advance bookings opened, shows filled up almost immediately, and many theatres were sold out within days. Advance-booking reports put first-day gross sales at about ₹41.20 lakh, with roughly 13,500 tickets sold across about 102 shows on day one — a level of pre-release business unheard of for an Assamese film. Several outlets also reported that first-week shows were fully booked within two days of bookings going live.

Reports predict that the film could earn between ₹30 to ₹50 crore if it continues to run strong for two months.
