Guwahati: UPSC aspirants from Assam who clear the Civil Services Preliminary Examination will now receive financial support from the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) under a newly launched assistance programme.
As part of the initiative, 25 successful candidates will be given a one-time grant of Rs 50,000 each to support their preparation for the next stages of the examination.
The student body announced the scheme on Sunday through a video message issued by AASU president Utpal Sarma as the UPSC prelims were conducted across the country.
Sarma conveyed his wishes to all candidates appearing for the examination and said the programme was introduced to encourage greater participation of students from Assam in India’s civil services.
He said the monetary assistance is meant to help candidates continue their preparation for the mains and interview rounds by meeting expenses related to coaching classes, mock interviews, and study materials.
According to him, many aspirants struggle to access proper training and expert guidance after clearing the preliminary stage, and the initiative seeks to bridge that gap for deserving students.
He said AASU plans to keep assisting promising students from Assam by creating opportunities that can help them perform better in competitive examinations at the national level.
Sarma also called on the public to extend encouragement to the programme, expressing hope that the initiative would help increase the participation of Assamese candidates in the civil services.
