No winner emerged from the fourth-round clash in Group B between New South Wales’ Marconi Stallions and Victoria’s Heidelberg United.
The hosts were locked in on their defensive duties while the visitors looked like they were playing with one foot slightly on the brake. Something seemed to hold back John Anastasiadis’ usually high-energy, full-of-mongrel lads. Perhaps it was fatigue from back-to-back trips and gruelling fixtures.
The Italo Aussies were the ones to break the deadlock in the 65th minute through new signing Harry Van Der Saag. Their joy didn’t last long, though, as the yellow and blacks pulled level in the 71st with a cracking goal from Marcus Humbert. That was the blonde midfielder’s first strike in Heidelberg colours. Next up for the Greek Aussie outfit is a date with Wollongong Wolves, scheduled for Sunday 9 November, 1pm kick-off. The clash will be played at Alexandros home patch.
