Investment in Osijek Airport to Result in New Look & More Flights

October the 31st, 2025 – A handsome investment in Osijek Airport will result in a brand new look and the modernisation of the services it offers to those it serves.

As KomarilOS writes, the works on the expansion of the Osijek Airport terminal are progressing according to plan and should be completed by the end of March 2026. These works are part of an investment in Osijek Airport totalling 14.3 million euros. The terminal expansion itself is actually the first major reconstruction of Osijek Airport since the construction of the main building.

Although this eastern Croatian airport was significantly renovated way back in 2007 (18 years ago), it was not adapted to the Schengen regime. A mezzanine is currently being built on the ground floor, where areas for passengers who don’t have valid documentation and areas intended for the airport’s administration will be located. Inside the terminal itself, passenger reception and dispatch, police, customs, retail facilities, a café, office and technical spaces will be located. After the full reconstruction is complete, the terminal building will also have a completely new heating, cooling and ventilation system.

the investment in osijek airport will throw it into the modern era

“We’re going to end up with a visually, functionally and technically connected facility that we will be proud of when guests and passengers come to us. The most impressive thing will be the new facade because it will radically change the visual story of the airport.

What is inside is more or less the same facilities that we had until now, but completely modernised and adapted to all Schengen criteria. There’s also a canopy that extends over the reception side, so passengers will be able to unload their luggage without an issue in case of bad weather, they won’t get wet and they will be able to approach the facility in a much better way,” emphasised Darko Ojvan from Respect-ing, which is conducting expert supervision over the entire investment at Osijek Airport.

“With the new terminal and the new, more modern, more comfortable and faster, and more comfortable space, we expect a larger number of passengers. We’re expanding the passenger building to go from 2,200 to 2,800 square metres. I must also emphasise that the number of passengers at Osijek Airport has tripled compared to 2021. At that time, we didn’t actually have a single international flight. That same year, we introduced flights to Munich, and in 2023 we introduced them to London. Together with Osijek-Baranja County and the Croatian Government, and after the terminal is expanded, we’ll get to work on bringing in more new flights,” emphasised Osijek Mayor Ivan Radić during a tour of the reconstruction and expansion works of the passenger terminal.

County Mayor Nataša Tramišak also added that this investment in Osijek Airport is currently one of the largest investments in transport infrastructure in the entire area.

more international flights for osijek airport

“We’ve all been listening to the needs of our fellow citizens and all those who want to use this airport, and who are also proposing to us the introduction of some new international flights. This is taking its course, so we can already announce that the City of Osijek and Osijek-Baranja County, as well as the ministry, are considering introducing new destinations from Osijek as we speak,” said Tramišak.

Tihomir Pejin, Director of Osijek Airport, revealed that the first phase of these very extensive (and expensive) works, which related to the external part, is now complete.

“We’ve moved on to the second phase, and the most important thing is that air traffic hasn’t been closed. It’s taking place and will continue to take place throughout the reconstruction of the passenger terminal, which is currently located in the administrative building. We’ve had our winter flight schedule in operation since Monday, we’re continuing at that pace, and the plan is for everything to continue like this until March the 28th, 2026, when our summer flight schedule starts. I hope we will also move to our new passenger terminal by then, too,” said Pejin.
