Beijing, China, May 22, 2026 — The People’s Republic of China has pledged continued support for Liberia in safeguarding its sovereignty, national security, and development agenda, while expressing appreciation for Liberia’s steadfast commitment to the One-China Principle.

In recent years, under the leadership of President Xi Jinping and President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, political trust between the two countries has deepened, people-to-people relations have grown stronger, and bilateral ties have reached a new height of strategic partnership.

On May 19, 2026, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, held bilateral talks with Liberian Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti in Beijing.

Minister Wang Yi emphasized the enduring friendship between the two nations, highlighting their collaboration during major health crises such as Ebola and COVID-19, and their shared journey towards modernization.

“China appreciates Liberia’s adherence to the One-China Principle, supports Liberia in safeguarding its national sovereignty and security, and exploring a development path tailored to its own conditions and traditions,” stated Wang Yi. “China stands ready to provide continued support for Liberia’s core interests and major concerns.”

Wang Yi added that China will continue to assist Liberia’s economic and social development, and is seeking to enhance cooperation in areas such as trade, agriculture, and public welfare. He also noted the significance of the “China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges” as a platform to strengthen ties in culture, youth, sports, and human resources development.

For her part, Foreign Minister Nyanti reaffirmed Liberia’s commitment to the One-China Policy and respect for China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, which has been enshrined in Liberian law.

She expressed deep appreciation for China’s longstanding support in Liberia’s development and public health efforts, and voiced Liberia’s readiness to learn from China’s experiences in poverty alleviation.

Nyanti indicated that Liberia looks forward to expanding high-level exchanges with China, deepening political trust, leveraging the zero-tariff policy, and promoting cooperation in trade, agriculture, infrastructure, healthcare, and people-to-people exchanges.

She also commended China’s vision of building a community with a shared future for humanity and emphasized Liberia’s willingness to enhance multilateral coordination within the United Nations framework, jointly uphold international fairness and justice, and work toward global peace and prosperity.
