CAMPUS LIFE REVITALISED, AS GOVERNMENT RELEASES STUDENTS’ ALLOWANCES

BY MFANUFIKILE KHATHWANE

MBABANE Tertiary students under the Government Scholarship Programme have begun receiving their monthly allowances, following confirmation from the Ministry of Labour and Social Security that payments would be disbursed on 31 October 2025.

In a public statement issued yesterday, the Ministry announced that all ongoing students, along with first-year students from institutions where administrative processes have been finalised, have now received their stipends.

These institutions include Ngwane College, William Pitcher College, Eswatini College of Technology, Good Shepherd College of Nursing, Gwamile Voctim, Botho University, Southern Africa Nazarene University, and the Institute of Development Management.

“All ongoing students will receive their allowances for the month of October 2025. Allowances for first-year students will be disbursed for the under-listed institutions whose processes have been concluded,” the Ministry stated.

Social media platforms were soon filled with appreciation posts from students who confirmed that the funds had reflected in their accounts. Many expressed relief, noting that the support would ease financial pressure as the academic year continues.

A first-year student at Botho University shared:

“As the Ministry announced, we have now received our allowances. This will make life easier for me and my family.”

Another beneficiary, Mthokozisi Matsebula from Southern Africa Nazarene University (SANU), added:

“We received our allowances today, and it will help us focus fully on our studies.”

The Ministry further assured that payments for first-year students at remaining institutions are still being processed.

“Processing of student allowances for other tertiary institutions remains ongoing for those whose invoices have been received. For those whose invoices have not yet been submitted, payments will commence once they are made available,” the statement clarified.

Book allowances are expected to be issued in November 2025, following technical adjustments the Ministry said were necessary before disbursement.

Students at Limkokwing University of Creative Technology (LUCT) have also received their monthly allowances, while first-year students at the institution await processing.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with tertiary institutions, student leadership and parents to ensure full implementation of the Government Scholarship Programme. With funding now released, campuses are expected to return to normal academic activity, with students expressing renewed focus and stability.
