Santo Domingo.- Tourism Minister David Collado announced the completion of 11 reconstructed streets in Santo Domingo’s Colonial City, part of a major urban renewal project valued at more than RD$103 million. The initiative, carried out through the Executive Committee for Infrastructure of Tourist Zones (Ceiztur), aims to enhance accessibility, infrastructure, and the overall visitor experience in one of the country’s most iconic areas.
Collado emphasized that approximately 8% of all tourists visiting the Dominican Republic include the Colonial City in their itineraries, reaffirming that no streets in the area will be closed during December to avoid disrupting tourism and local commerce. The project includes the reconstruction of sidewalks, curbs, and pavements across 17 streets, as well as drainage improvements, new signage, and universal access ramps.
The minister highlighted that the intervention reflects the government’s commitment to inclusive and sustainable tourism, extending improvements to nearby neighborhoods like San Lázaro and San Miguel. Collado stated that these works will help preserve the historic charm of the Colonial City while promoting it as one of the Dominican Republic’s top attractions for both national and international visitors.
