The wildlife conservationist and son of iconic Austrailian zookeeper, Steve Iriwn, started off his premiere dance with his pro partner Witney Carson by jumping off a car.
The duo danced the Jive to none other than Steppenwolf’s 1968 classic “Born to Be Wild,” dressed in jungle-themed outfits and Irwin’s signature khaki pants.
The two received two scores of eight putting them in first place for the first night. Judge Derek Hough called the performance “probably the best first dance I’ve ever seen on this show.”
Irwin moved seamlessely with Carson performing complicated spins, dips, leaps and intricate footwork like a seasoned pro.

The Austrailian photographer has some family history with DWTS. His debut comes a decade after his older sister, Bindi Irwin, won season 21 in 2015 with Hough as her partner.
Although, Irwin claims he didn’t prepare physically for the show and has no dance experience, he’s been a fan of the show since he was a child.
In Irwin’s Instagram post of his dance he said, “I started my rehearsals without the slightest idea of how to dance and I am just so gateful to Witney for being the most incredible teacher.”
“This show means the world to me and I am pinching myself that I get to live out a childhood dream,” Irwin continued.
The next chance to catch Robert Irwin and other celebrities on “Dancing with the Stars” will be on Tuesday, September 23 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
